On December 29, the members of the Varsity cheer squad traveled to the IU Bloomington campus for Spirit Day. The cheerleaders also attended UCA cheer camp this past summer, and UCA contacted all of the schools who attended their camp, including Paoli, and asked if anyone was interested in participating in Spirit Day at IU. Participating in Spirit Day gave the cheerleaders the opportunity to cheer during halftime of an IU basketball game. The game the girls cheered at was against Youngstown State. The cheerleaders who attended were freshmen Libby Padgett and Lili Seals, juniors Sara Kesterson and Mahalia Taylor and seniors Mikaela Robbins and Jorja Davis.
“It was a great opportunity for the cheerleaders to be in front of a large crowd and perform. It was also a different experience because the girls were given the material ahead of time to learn, but weren’t able to put it all together until that night. They had to quickly make adjustments to prepare for the performance,” said cheer coach Brooke Goerres.
The girls really enjoyed having the opportunity to attend this event, and they got to experience what it is like to be a college cheerleader.
