The Varsity Boys Basketball kicks off their season at home tomorrow in Chambers gym, facing the Henryville Hornets.

Last year the boys finished with a record of 14-9 with them being 3-1 in conference play. The team also made a run all the way to Regional where their season ended in the first round against Forest Park.

“We are excited about the season. We feel like we have lots of quality leaders on this year’s team.  We have a good mix of experienced veterans and some talented young guys.  Any time we have good leadership, our teams continue to improve throughout the season and get better every week. We foresee that being true of this year’s team as well. This team is capable of being one of the better teams we’ve had in a while,” said Head Coach Dusty Cole.

Seniors this year are Brandon Cook and Isaac Cornett-McBride. Senior managers are Braven Cook and Max Newkirk.

“I think we will have a really good season this year, over the summer we played some really good teams and ended up winning super hoops, both JV and Varsity, now that the actual season has started our first game is Henryville which we have been putting in the work to get the season started with a win,” said Cook.

Underclassmen on the team this year include: juniors Jason Beavers, Andrew Kumpf, Trey Rominger and Willson Windhorst, sophomores Isaiah Apple, Hayden Bostock, Fletcher Cole, Jeremiah Hutcheson, Lydon Poe, Jaxson Reynolds and Dashawn Robertson, freshmen Logan Arthur, Colton Baechle, Coen Brace, Austin Chastain, Tyler Hannon, Kirkland Hughes, Treighlin Minton, Dane Padgett, Cooper Spires, Chad Sullivan and Kade Walls, managers Jaxton Deaton, Dominic Garcia and Mason McBride.

Cornett-McBride tells his goal this season.

“My goal for this season is to win PLAC,” said Cornett-McBride.

Cole expects the team to play an “underdog” role this year.

“Our conference and sectional are as tough as ever, but we feel like we can be a contender for both of them. We lost some quality players from last year’s team, and many people are overlooking us, or not really talking much about us. We have seen some pre-season polls, some predictions, and some early favorites and Paoli has not entered many of those conversations. I think that could change as the season progresses and we could really turn some heads this season.  Playing that underdog role can be a lot of fun. It should be a really fun year,” said Cole

Cole still has big goals for the team this season.

“[My goal is] conference championship (keep the streak going), sectional championship, win 15+ games, and get better every day,” said Cole.

The Varsity Boys Basketball team is set to take the court on Friday, December 2 at home against Henryville. JV will start at 6 p.m. with Varsity to follow.
