15 Minutes of Fame with Choir teacher Cynthia Underwood
Q: What first got you into the choir?
A: I was always singing as a very small child, so when I was around 5 or 6, my parents signed me up for a local children’s choir; I’ve been singing in choirs ever since!
Q: How long have you been teaching choir?
A: This is my second full year teaching choir.
Q: What is your favorite song to teach in choir?
A: My favorite song we’re working on is called “Dawn.” It has amazing harmonies and beautiful lyrics. One of my favorite pieces I’ve ever taught was an arrangement of “Levitating” by Dua Lipa; the song went from a fun pop song into an amazingly catchy choir piece.
Q: Do you wish to continue choir in the future?
A: I want to keep the choir going here at Paoli and continue to be involved in choirs for as long as possible.
Q: What is the best thing about choir?
A: The best thing about choir is creating amazing music I could never make all alone. It’s only by coming together, working hard, and building a strong team that we can perform this music.
Q: What is something you would tell people interested in choir?
A: Listen to some choir music! There is a lot of variety out there, from pop to jazz, to classical to international. If a genre catches your attention, or if you think it would be fun to sing in a group, give the choir a try. It can be very fun, especially when you put the work in to create the best performances possible.
