Graham’s Blog: Healthy relationships with your parents

Whether we like to admit it or not, our parents and guardians are some of the most important people in our lives, if not the most.

That being said, it is critical to cherish and protect those key aspects of our lives. Keeping any relationship healthy takes time, energy and a willingness to communicate. Most of us would have a meltdown if our boyfriend or girlfriend threatened to break up with us, but a fight with Mom or Dad is just no big deal. I don’t know about you guys, but that sounds a little backwards to me.

Sure, any relationship lasting a long period of time is bound to have its ups and downs, but a shocking number of teens treat their parents like yesterday’s trash, and see them only as a source of cash and constant nagging. These are the people who love us unconditionally; they care for us, feed us, and keep us alive. Yet, we allow nearly every other relationship in our lives to take precedence over our relationship with them.

Maybe we should all take inventory of our lives and things we put first, and make a few changes; just my opinion.
