On Saturday, January 28, the wrestling team traveled to Bloomington North High School to compete in Sectional. In the individuals’ tournament, one Ram wrestler moved on to regionals.

Senior Austin Benales placed fourth in the 160 pound weight class after finishing the day with a record of 2-2. Only the top four wrestlers in each weight class move on to regionals.

Senior Marty Higgins placed fifth in the 195 pound weight class and was an alternate for regional play. Higgins finished the season with a record of 21-8.

The Regional contest was held on Saturday, February 4 at Bloomington South High School. Benales wrestled his first match and lost in two periods. He is finishing the season with a record of 38-3.

Benales will act as an alternate for semi-state this weekend at the Ford Center in Evansville.

The team graduates three seniors, including Austin Benales, Marty Higgins and Adin Monroe.

“I’m very happy that I was able to spend my formative years with such a positive community of great wrestlers,” said Monroe.

Junior high wrestling had their first meet of the season on February 9 at Southridge Middle School. Their next meet will be Thursday, February 16, at home against Washington.
