PHS held the annual Peddler’s Market event for the April short day, April 1. PBIS Coordinator Chris Lindley oversaw the planning and execution of this event. The Peddler’s Market is a student favorite event at PHS, and is eagerly anticipated all year. The Peddler’s Market is an event in which every homeroom, both high school and junior high, comes up with a business plan and set up a booth in the gym to sell their products or activities.
There were 24 booths this year. While many of the booths consisted of food items, there were also some activity-based ones like video games, dog-petting, “soak a senior,” and pies-in-the-face. The
food sold included larger items like walking tacos, Smashburgers, and biscuits and gravy, as well as snacks and sweets.
To prepare for this event, homerooms were supposed to start thinking and planning their businesses in January and February, then build their booths and decide whether they would need electricity or anything school-provided. In addition to the actual business, students had to discuss and decide which employability skills were incorporated into it.
Since this event has happened for many years, the setup and teardown were easier than ever before because students knew exactly what to do. While Peddler’s Market was a huge success, there were a few minor issues that were easily resolved.
“I circulated around taking pictures and asking questions, and I could tell that a lot of learning was happening while we enjoyed what has come to be a highly anticipated event in our school year,” said Lindley.
In total, the profits were around $3500.00, with Math Teacher Aaron Key’s Junior homeroom making $693.00 by selling pie in the face, dog petting, and canned drinks.
His homeroom was followed by Math Teacher Brandy Dillard’s Senior homeroom, who made $463.00 by selling walking tacos, candy, and canned drinks.
Overall, the Junior class won with total profits of $1236.00, followed by the Seniors, who made $886.00.
