The Rams’ wrestling regular season ended in January, but offseason work is just beginning.

Seven Ram wrestlers will be participating in the second-annual 1A/2A Individual Wrestling State Championship this weekend on Sunday, March 5.

This is a new tournament created by IndianaMat, the official website for Indiana wrestling. This event is intended to give smaller, less competitive schools an opportunity to win state titles against schools of similar size.

The tournament style is double-elimination. The top eight wrestlers in each weight class will compete in four regional matches. Seeding will be determined at the event by winning percentage.

Wrestlers attending are seniors Austin Benales, Adin Monroe, juniors Quinton Albertson, Matteo Sambruni, sophomores Peyton Baker, Jonny Shellenberger, freshmen Kolt Bonta and Deegan Brashear.

“For our seniors, I wanted to give them one more opportunity to represent our community through their hard work. For our other returning wrestlers, every time they wrestle is an opportunity to grow and learn. If we want our program to be successful, we need as many of these opportunities as we can get,” said Head Coach J.D. Emerick.

The tournament will take place at Southmount High School in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Tickets will be $10 per person and matches are set to begin at 9 a.m.
