The Lady Rams basketball team will kick off the season on Thursday, November 7, facing the Northeast Dubois Jeeps. The girls are coached this year by Donavan Crews. Joining Crews on the staff are JV coach Jeremy Payton, C team coach Stacey Ochs, and assistant coach Laura Lazwell.
Crews is working this season with just a few returning players.
“This season we will look a lot different than we have the past few years. We only have three returning players (senior Carley Higgins, junior Jericho Hopper, and sophomore Maddie Vernon) that have any varsity experience,” said Crews.
Vernon will not see playing time until the end of December due to her recovery from surgery.
“We lost sixty-five of our offense and over fifty percent of our rebounding so we have a lot of holes to fill. We will probably be one of the youngest teams around,” said Crews.
Crews is looking for numerous players to step up for his team this year.
“I look for Jericho and Carley to lead this team with the experience that they have. Senior Anna Radcliff will also have to be a leader this year. When we get Maddie back I would expect her to step into a leadership role as well,” said Crews.
Crews feels that despite their inexperience, they already work well together.
“This year’s team seems to be a lot like the teams we’ve had in the past. They are a fairly tight-knit group that enjoys playing with each other,” said Crews.
The Lady Rams will kick off their season on Thursday, November 7, at Northeast Dubois, starting at 6 p.m.
