As the winter sports season has come to a close, and the Rams are headed outside for the spring season.
Last season, the Varsity tennis team, coached by Tyla Whitfield, had a record of 2-14. With no seniors graduating last season, there’s lots of room for team improvement this season. Seniors this year are Audrey Hall, Ava Hall, and Aurora Hays. Mentality is the main thing Whitfield hopes to see across the board this season.
“I want my leaders to hold teammates accountable for their attitude and effort during practice and matches,” said Whitfield.
The Lady Rams are facing higher-level competition to build themselves and acclimate for the start of the season.
“I want my leaders to hold teammates accountable for their attitude and effort during practice and matches,” said Whitfield.
The Varsity girls’ track team graduated one senior, and this season, the only senior is Libby Newkirk. This year’s team has bigger numbers, and effort and passion are simply what the team is working on for a better season.
“I’m looking for my leaders to continue to push themselves and everyone around them to keep getting better,” said Coach Cara Hall.
The Varsity boys track team had a season with some highs and lows. This season will be led by a veteran senior group of Charlie Higgins, Kolt Bonta, Coen Brace, and Colton Baechle.
The team is getting ready for this season by working on each event.
“We have been practicing field events and working on individual running events,” said Hall.
The Varsity golf team had a very successful season, finishing runner-up in every regular-season competition except one. This season, there is one senior, Chad Sullivan, who will join juniors Klay Turner and Colton Henderson in the leadership role.
“I’m looking for my leaders to continue to push themselves and everyone around them to keep getting better,” said Coach Matt Wolfe.
There will be lots of new golfers in the lineup this year, and they will get better as the season goes on. “Getting a feel is what the Rams Golf team is looking for; meets are creeping up, and a feel is just what they need,” said Coach Matt Wolfe.
The Rams Baseball team had a record of 10-10 last season, being coached by Jeremy Payton, and also graduated three seniors.
This season, the baseball team will be led by six senior veterans: Tyler Hannon, Dom Garcia, Cooper Spires, Kirk Hughes, Austin Chastain, and Aidan Hickman.
“I’m hoping our senior leadership can help the underclassmen see what it takes to improve, and to leave their impact on the program,” said Payton.
The Rams are expecting a good season this year based on their experience with the upperclassmen.
“I’m expecting to win 15 games, PLAC, and a Sectional Championship,” said Payton.
The Varsity softball team is coached this season by new coach Brandy Dillard. This season, the Lady Rams are led by seniors Tori Patton, Amber Pennington, and Tariana Burkhead.
A lot of mentality and work ethic are required for optimal growth; the leaders, underclassmen, JV, and entire roster need to put in the effort and dedication.
“I’m always looking to my seniors for good attitudes and great work ethics. Leaders set the tone for the entire team. If they are willing to work without complaint, the entire team will also feel that way,” said Dillard.
Practices are going as expected, and it’s about reflecting the effort the team puts into it by scoring wins across this season.
“We are preparing like normal. We continue practicing and learning the game, as well as doing a lot of team bonding. Playing well together as a team is incredibly important for success,” said Dillard.
