The Rams Volleyball team will kick off their season at home tonight against North Daviess with JV starting at 6 p.m.

Last week Ram fans got a preview of their team at the scrimmage played at Crawford County on Thursday.

The Rams ended the scrimmage with two sets to 25, which resulted in the team’s favor.

“I think the scrimmage showed us how our season is going to go and how well we are going to play together. It also makes me excited for the season but also a teeny tiny bit nervous because there are a couple of things I think we have to fix or get better at,” said junior Nadia Garcia.

Head Coach Alexis Speer reflected on last season.

“We were above .500 and improved tremendously from the previous year,” said Speer.

The Rams finished their season last year with a record of 14-9 and were fourth in the PLAC. The team graduated seniors Emma McCrary, Laykin Busick, Kinsey McBride, Karyas Slaten and Rylie Atkins.

The Rams lost in the first round of Sectionals last year, but are fully prepared to put in the work this year to hopefully get that Sectional Championship.

“We have been putting in the effort at practice. This team is something special and we all want to bring home that big win,” said senior Ashleigh Garcia.

This year the team came up with a new motto: WORK. While it is simple, it is the best description of their ambition and goals.

According to Speer, this year each spot on the court is available and each player will need to work hard to earn their position.

Seniors for this season are River Fleming and Ashleigh Garcia. Speer believes both girls will step up as leaders this year.

“I’m super excited to play with my teammates during my last year on the court,” said Fleming.

Speer gives some insight into her dreams this season.

“My hope is to improve each game and practice and towards the end of the season, we should be where we want to be,” said Speer.

This year’s roster includes seniors River Fleming and Ashleigh Garcia, juniors Gracie Brown, Faith Gammon, Nadia Garcia, Carley Higgins, Ella Spires, Lily Stroud, Abby Tapp, Stella Windhorst, sophomores Keilea Moore, Keeley Scott, Chloe Smith, and freshmen Tariana Burkhead, Charli Chastain, Tori Patton, Abby Poe and Maddie Vernon.
