As many people around the school have probably noticed, the clocks in the school never got set to the right time and recently got stuck at 6:05. This is a big problem, considering students cannot have their phones in the classroom. In a recent email, Wagner stated that the clock system would eventually be replaced.
To understand why they are replacing the system, people need to understand the underlying system and what is causing the current problems.
The school’s current clock system is a synchronized system in which all clocks are automatically controlled and synced to a master clock. The problem is that this system is outdated, and the master clock is not working correctly. Making matters worse, the company that makes the school’s clock system has stopped making them. The combination of these two problems makes it very difficult to obtain parts to fix the system. For these reasons, the school board has decided to replace the system; however, doing so won’t be cheap.
“We’ve got about 100 clocks here, and you’re talking about a cost of $80,000 to $200,000,” said Maintenance Director Tim Guthrie.
The actual cost of replacing the system has not been determined, and the school is now seeking the most cost-effective option.
“When you’re buying something, you know, that’s extremely expensive as a school corporation, you have to get multiple bids… Estimates and things,” said Principal Ed Wagner.
The school is currently obtaining multiple bids. Once those are completed and the project receives School Board approval, the goal is to complete the work during a school break to minimize classroom disruptions.
