On Wednesday, October 22, the eighth-grade students traveled around the county for the annual Manufacturing Field Trip. Surrounding schools in the county also participated. The purpose of the field trip was to allow eighth-grade students to experience what the inside of local factories looks like and how they operate.
To begin the day, students visited the Orange County Community Center to learn from the various booths that were set up. A couple of the booths included are Cook Medical, Ivy Tech Bloomington, and Vincennes, among others. There, the Lost River Co-op provided the students with lunch. Then, eighth-grade students split into two groups. Group One visited Envision, and Group Two visited National Water Services. Each group got a tour of the buildings and a lesson on the factories.
“Our biggest hope is that every eighth-grade student realizes the incredible career potential available right here in Orange County. This event is designed to pull them out of the classroom and allow them to experience hands-on learning about manufacturing and get a glimpse of the varied careers available locally. This year’s success wouldn’t have been possible without our generous partners who opened their doors and provided demonstrations. Our Business Partners included Jasper Group in Orleans, ANOPRO LLC in Paoli, ENVISIONS DESIGNS in Paoli, NATIONAL WATER SERVICES in Paoli, and Pluto Corporation in French Lick. Additionally, our Other Partners for the lunch and demonstrations at the Community Center were Ivy Tech Bloomington, Vincennes University Jasper, IU Maker Mobile, Cook Medical, and Lost River Market & Co-op,” said Lori Stroud, eighth-grade science teacher and event coordinator.
In total, the majority of eighth-grade students at PHS participated in the annual Manufacturing Field Trip. The goal was to allow them to experience the many potential career opportunities available here in Orange County.
