On November 5, the monthly short Wednesday, high school students went and competed in a Speech Contest in many different categories, but in the junior high, they competed in a ball run competition. In this competition, students were put into groups. These groups got 30 papers, a roll of tape, and a ping pong ball to construct and test an obstacle course of their choosing to get the most amount of time on their course. Each group in the seventh and eighth-grade homerooms competed for the top score of their homeroom for a chance to go against the top scorers in the other homerooms.
Out of every homeroom, the top three scoring teams are:

1st place: Teya Kameda, Camley Whitfield, Yvaine Miller, and Addisyn Nelson, with an 8.4-second time and a score of 23.72.
2nd place: Kenneth Dickey, Brendan Parks, Casey Ferran, Diedrick Davenport, and Isaac York, with 7.6 seconds and a score of 13.24.
3rd place: Easton Arsenault, Sylvia Bender, Quentin Smitson, Rose Wood, and Avianna Underhill, with 4.2 seconds and a score of 11.8.
“By taking on specific roles, sharing their individual designs, and collaborating under a tight deadline, these young engineers showed off their incredible teamwork and problem-solving skills! Future innovators in the making!” said STEM Event Coordinator Lori Stroud.

“I think this event went pretty well, with multiple people and multiple groups working together to compete for the win. The students, I believe, did really well all around during the competition to make their obstacle course work. Even through all of the obstacles, such as their project breaking and things not holding up by themselves, the students worked well to redesign their project, or even reconstruct messed-up pieces to be better used in another part of the design.”
