No Shave November is a fundraising event founded by PHS SRO Jon Deaton. In this fundraiser, male seniors volunteer to go without shaving their heads throughout the month of November, including Officer Deaton himself. Five seniors volunteered this year: Aden Crowder, Chad Sullivan, Charlie Higgins, Jaxton Deaton, and Keegan Cox.
Each of these seniors has their own money jar for students to put their donations in, which can be found in front of the Ram Room during lunch. As students donate money, whoever offers the most for a given senior gets to shave that senior. The boys, along with Officer Deaton, will have their heads shaved in front of the school on December 3, during the next half-day.
Last year, the school raised $514 from the seniors who participated. The hope is to raise more money toward the goal by adding extra locations to donate.
“I’m really hoping to double that this year, and we should be able to get more this year because Orleans is also doing their own version of the No Shave November, where they’re also going to be raising money,” said Officer Deaton.
Donations are also being collected in the community at places such as Studio 59, Windhorst, Buddies Gas Station, Roosters, Raymond James, and Stylin’ By Kathy. All the donations will go toward St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
“We raised the money for St. Jude for a great cause, and it’s a great hospital, so whatever we can do to give back to our community, we want to do that. We’re hoping to be able to help as many people as possible,” said Officer Deaton.
