At November 11th’s Veterans Day Program, Assistant Principal Adam Stroud announced that Paoli High School has earned the designation of being named an Indiana Purple Star School.
Paoli is the only school in Orange County to receive this honor this year, joining nearly 100 schools across Indiana recognized for their commitment to
military-connected students and families.
This designation, announced in a Press Release from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) on November 7, stated that schools included in the list were being recognized for “their significant display of commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military.”
“Our Purple Star designation shows we care deeply about the whole child and recognize the unique sacrifices military families make,” said Stroud.
Stroud began the application process last December, working to meet requirements including establishing a dedicated point of contact for military
families, creating support resources, hosting annual military recognition events, and ensuring military service members receive guaranteed job interviews.
But this award means more than checking boxes.
“This honor isn’t just a badge—it’s a reflection of who we are as a school family,” said Stroud.
The designation is valid for three years and reflects our school’s culture of compassion, respect, and community. It demonstrates our commitment to ensuring every military-connected student feels welcomed and supported from day one.
At the Veterans Day Program, U.S. History Teacher Chris Lindley made a point to ask family members to stand and be represented as the support for their family members who serve their country.
In the Press Release from the IDOE, a message was shared from Governor Mike Braun connecting the Veterans Day holiday to the importance of the Purple Star distinction.
“As Veterans Day approaches, our communities will join together to honor the brave men and women who have and continue to serve our great nation,” said Braun. “Indiana’s Purple Star Schools honor this sacrifice and show their appreciation throughout the year—both in words and in action. This Veterans Day, let us all take a moment to thank those who serve and reflect on the freedoms we enjoy today because of their bravery.”
