On February 7, the Heart and Hope for the Kids Gala was held at the French Lick Hotel. Team OC organizes this gala, a group focused on improving the Orange County community and supporting our students and children. Many people were recognized for their contributions, including PHS’s own JAG teacher Katie Cook.
Cook was recognized as one of three educators who meet students where they are and help them grow. Specifically for PHS, Team OC, along with Cook, organized a program called Teen Chefs. Students gather after school and learn how to cook a meal. They are also given the equipment and the ingredients to cook the meal again at home for their families. They have also donated over 150 food bags to the high school to help combat hunger.
“I felt humbled, but honored to be recognized. There are so many good educators out there who also deserve recognition! But I was really excited and grateful for my gifts. It was a bit intimidating going on stage in front of all those people, especially because I was the only one of the three who got recognized in attendance,” said Cook.
Team OC helps the community by securing grants, running a youth mentorship program, supporting the food pantry, and donating to it.
