The Broadway musical “Annie” will come to the stage this summer, with performance dates scheduled for July 19, 20, and 21.
Auditions for the production will be held in the Throop band room on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 between 1:00-4:00 P.M. According to Director Larry Hollan, “We will be casting all age groups, so bring the family!” He explained that there is no need to bring or prepare anything; everyone will be reading and from the show’s script and singing the shows well-known numbers, such as “Tomorrow.”Audition activities will occur every ½ hour on both days, so everyone can come at a time that best suits their schedule. Behind-the-scenes volunteers are also needed. “Stage workers will be needed to pull ropes, move backdrops and props. Then, others will help with the technology of lights and sound, while other volunteers can be used to usher or put on make-up and assist with costumes,” explains Hollan. “There is room for everyone,” he stresses.
The cast will also be looking for a dog to be on stage as “Sandy.” In the Broadway production, a terrier is often seen in the role, but Hollan is willing to look at other breeds or mixes. He added that it is a big commitment to have a pet on stage. That audition will come a little later and will include interaction with the star of the show, Annie. The animal will need to be good around children and follow simple commands like “come” and “stay.”
