Seventh grade science teacher Jeremy Reynolds owns an electric car and shared his experience with freshman staff writer Weston Moffatt.

Q: Why buy an electric car?
A: The reasons to buy an electric car, are the reasons to buy any car. It’s just a car. It drives the same. I just don’t stop at gas stations. I charge it at home, just like I charge everything else I use.

Q: What benefits come with an electric car?
A: Charging the car at home is cheaper than buying gas. Everyone already knows the benefits to the environment that electric automobiles offer.

Q: Is it more expensive or cheaper than a gas car overall?
A: It’s cheaper. You do have the cost of installing a charger, but you will save money in the long run.

Q: Does it function as well as a gas car?
A: It functions better than a gas car. Fewer things can go wrong. I’ve never had any problems with it at all.

Q: How could buying an electric car benefit someone?
A: It’s not going to change your life. It’s a car. It offers the same benefits that all cars do.

Q: Would you recommend buying an electric car?
A: Absolutely. I like it a lot. It’s a nice car. The electric cars that are being produced now, have a range of 320-350 miles on a charge. Maybe if you’re
a person who drives more than 300 miles a day, every day, an electric car might not be for you.

Q: How do you charge your car and where can you charge it?
A: I have a charger at home and I plug it in every other day. Once the battery is charged, the charger shuts off.

Q: How long does one charge last on average?
A: My car is older. The batteries that were produced at the time had a smaller range so mine is only 80 miles. So I charge mine every other day or so. If I know I have to do more driving than that, I take a different vehicle.

Q: Did you plan on buying an electric car or did it just happen?
A: Well, I think we talked about it, then we did it. I didn’t have an extensive plan. I just went and got it. If you get a used electric car, the price isn’t much more than the price of a used gas car.

Q: Do you enjoy your car being quieter, if so why?
A: I usually have four kids in the car with me so I don’t notice it being quieter.

Q: What are the biggest flaws with the car?
A: I do wish my car had a bigger range like the ones that are currently produced but what I have meets my needs 90% of the time.

Q: Would you buy a different car or the same one if you had the option?
A: I might get a different color car.

Hi, I'm Olivia McSpadden! This past year I was the photo editor for the yearbook and one of the main sports photographers. This year I'm the Chief Photographer and the Facebook Editor. With the Chief Photographer position, I have a heavy hand in the selection of pictures in the Hillcrest Yearbook, Paolite Newspaper, and all of our social media accounts. In addition to this I'm also over the gallerists of Paoli Media, so every time someone takes an event they make a gallery and captions, and then I post it on Facebook for the public to see!
