Gee Thanks is an original Spotify podcast with Georgia and Lily Grace.
The Grace sisters are from Australia and throughout their episodes they talk about the appreciation for different things like high school, women, or recognizing your mental health.
“Georgia and Lily are not your average sisters. Listen every Wednesday for all the reasons they must say ‘Gee Thanks’. Fridays are for the girls with a juicy episode of ‘Tell Your Sisters’ and kick back with a dreamy episode of ‘Sleepy Sundays’,” reads the Gee Thanks Bio.
They have over 200 episodes for anything and everything. If you feel burnt out, you could listen to the episode “Gee Thanks for Recognizing a Burnout”. If you’re having a bad hair day, you could listen to the episode “Gee Thanks for Hair”.
One episode in particular that spoke to me is “Gee Thanks for Me Time”. It helps me recognize that it’s okay to need and take some time for yourself and do what you need to be the best version of yourself, whether that means taking a couple of minutes to play a game on your phone or taking an hour to read a book. Whatever you need is okay.
Some listeners send in their dreams for the Sleepy Sundays segment such as Sleepy Sundays: Meeting Shawn Mendes or Sleepy Sundays: My Job at the Zoo. Need some advice? Go listen to their segments of Tell Your Sisters for input on anything from coming out, to stage fright. Whatever your feelings might be, they have an episode for you.
When I first downloaded Spotify in sixth grade, Gee Thanks came up as one of my recommended podcasts to listen to. At that time I was very new to podcasts so I put an episode on and instantly fell in love with it. They have a way of making you feel like you’re in the room with them even when you’re all alone. As somebody who has struggled with being alone, this was the perfect thing to make me feel like someone was there.
Some great things about their podcast include the care they show for their listeners and their ability to make a safe space to send in your stories and experiences. Sometimes they bring on guests to provide a third-party view on different topics, composing a cohesive response to the current problem that was sent in.
This is an amazing podcast, but one thing that is noticeably lacking is their professionalism. These sisters do not have many if not any credentials. They don’t have any expertise in the field of podcasting, talk shows, or therapeutic communication. They have the same level of sophistication as your favorite YouTube channel. With all due respect, this is not a podcast to get professional advice.
While this is a great podcast all around, they are currently on a break after releasing their first season, leaving listeners and followers in the dark. Their last episode was posted in March of 2023. As of right now, there is no information on when the next update will be.
