The novel follows the main character, Belly Conklin, as she tries to navigate life after the death of her family friend and mother figure, Susannah Fisher. Belly had also recently come out of her relationship with Conrad Fisher, leaving her feeling sad and empty. Throughout the book, Belly reconnects with Susannah’s sons, Conrad and Jeremiah, and they end up needing to work together to save Susannah’s summer beach house.
I think that this book does a good job of explaining how different people grieve the lives of those they were once close to. I feel like there’s going to be a lot of people who don’t like this one compared to the first because it’s just different. The growth of the characters in this book shows how the three main characters are becoming adults.
