This school year, Sydnee Johnson, Katrina Brace, and Megan Bradley have decided to create a new club for students called “Bring Change To Mind.” Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to join this club, and the meetings will be held in Johnson’s room.
The idea and purpose of starting this club are to eradicate stigma, normalize conversations about mental health, and empower people to share their stories. During meetings, students in this club will create safe environments for students to discuss the stigma of mental health and the discrimination that surrounds it. The club will be student-led and will promote mental health awareness, education, and a sense of community.
Bradley wanted to create a safe space where students could be themselves. “Recent statistics indicate a significant increase in mental health conditions in the US,” said Bradley. “We wanted to bring forth light to this and give students a safe place to discuss these topics, explore resources, and promote healthy lifestyle behaviors and habits.”
