The second annual PHS No Shave November took place during the December Early Release Day. Five seniors and both Paoli SROs went under the clippers to shave their heads to stubble for the fundraiser.
Six of the seven cut their hair, swept it up, and tossed it in the trash. But one senior took giving to the next level.
Senior contestant Charlie Higgins donated his hair to an organization called Children With Hair Loss.
“I wanted to donate my hair so other people who couldn’t grow hair or lost it could benefit from it,” said Higgins.Â
Higgins had to follow specific guidelines for his donation to be eligible for this organization. His hair had to be a minimum of 8 inches in length, clean, dry, and braided. Higgins will now send his hair in the mail to be used for children experiencing hair loss.
“I like my hair now; the only negative is that I’m cold, but everything is easier with short hair,” said Higgins.Â
To make the event more special, Higgins had his mom, Chemistry Teacher Melissa Higgins, and his dad, Chris, cut and shave his hair. They earned the ability to cut his hair by donating to the fundraiser.
“I was glad Chris donated $100 for St Jude’s, and it was the highest donation to shave Charlie’s hair. I was comfortable with his dad cutting his hair,” said Melissa.
At the end, Higgins had his girlfriend, senior Taylor Morgan, finish the cut.Â
“I am happy that he did what he wanted to do,” said Morgan. “He has been thinking about it for a very long time, and I am glad he is happy.”
This will not be the last time Higgins goes under the scissors for a good cause.Â
“I’m definitely planning on doing it again, possibly going straight back into growing it out again,” said Higgins.
