During the Early Release Day activities, PHS held the annual Kahoot “Trivia Game Show” in the auditorium for students in grades 7 through 12. The event was organized and hosted by U.S. History Teacher Chris Lindley.
“The purpose of the game is to offer a fun experience that also educates. In this case, it was to expose students to some information about America. Since our nation will be celebrating its 250th anniversary next year, I thought it would be fun to use American trivia for this year’s game show. Not only do the students competing get a chance to test their knowledge, but everyone, audience included, may actually learn something new about our nation and its culture,” said Lindley.
All the homerooms sent a few students to the stage to play in the game and represent their grade. The rest of the students sat in the audience and cheered for their classmates.
The game show featured five different categories: Trivial History, Folklore and Legends, Musical Traditions, Our 50 States, and Food and Cuisine.
Each round, the teams worked together to answer questions as quickly as possible. The questions were sometimes easy, and sometimes they made everyone think hard. Some rounds were really close, and the crowd was excited to see which team would win.
The seventh grade team did exceptionally well, getting first place in both Trivial History and Food categories. The freshmen took first place in Folklore, while the juniors came out on top in Musical Traditions. The eighth graders showed their knowledge of the United States by winning the Our 50 States category. The seniors won the most points overall, earning a top-three placing in all topics.
