On Sunday, January 25th, the IHSAA Girls Basketball Sectional draw was held. The draw is an event held annually to determine which teams will face each other in the first round of the sectional tournament. The Paoli girls’ team will be facing Providence on Wednesday, February 4th.
The teams in Sectional 46 are Clarksville, Crawford County, Eastern (Pekin), Lanesville, Mitchell, Paoli, Providence, and Salem. In game one, Clarksville will face Mitchell at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 3rd. The same day, game two will take place, with Crawford County battling Lanesville at 7:30. Game three will be Eastern (Pekin) vs. Salem at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 4th. The same day, Paoli will play against Providence at 7:30. The winners of game one and game two will play at 6:00 pm on Friday, February 6th, and the winners of game 3 and game four will play at 7:30 the same day.
Head Coach Aaron Key discussed the challenges leading up to the sectional game against Providence. “Providence is a good team, and we will have to be ready to play! We have had to cancel games because of the weather, leading to us not currently playing a game for over a week heading to sectional. Hopefully we are able to reschedule one more regular-season game to get the girls ready to go before sectional play,” said Key.
Seniors Maddie Vernon and Tariana Burkhead shared their thoughts going into the sectional game as well. “I feel like we got a tough draw with facing one of the top teams in our sectional, Providence. We will practice and watch film to get prepared for the game,” said Vernon.
“It’s not exactly what we were hoping for, but records don’t matter when it comes to tournament play. If we keep playing as we have been, I think we are in good shape and have a good chance of making it to the championship”, said Burkhead.
The games will be located in Eastern Pekin.
You can buy tickets through your mobile phone, and you may also purchase them through the EventLink on the IHSAA website. Ticket prices are $8 for one session or $20 for all sessions. Children 5 and under have free admission.
