Have you ever heard of “The Odyssey”? “The Odyssey” is a great book about Greek mythology. This book uses already known gods and goddesses, including Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, and Hermes.
This book follows Odysseus, a grand king of Ithaca, who gets stranded after the war of Troy. He, along with his crew of shipmates, gets stranded at sea, lost for many years. This book does a great job at explaining the situation and depletion of Odysseus throughout the journey.
The book starts us in the present day Ithaca, where Odysseus is still stranded on the island of Ogygia. The way this book describes this journey is kind of weird. The book begins when Odysseus is trapped on the island of Ogygia. This happens after all of the events later in the book, which makes the book somewhat confusing, jumping from one plot point to another.
The way this book jumps from these points is through storytelling, as Odysseus is talking about his journey, explaining it to a king over dinner. During the story, he starts at Troy. After he and his men raid Troy, they begin to sail away towards their home. Because they had raided and destroyed Troy, Poseidon got angry, as they had damaged his temples. So, because of all of that, they began to sail off course, causing the events in the book, like the cyclops and the lotus eaters, to lead them all back to the beginning of the book, where we start. Eventually, once we are back, Odysseus becomes free and gets back to his home.
This book is very confusing and is kind of hard to understand, depending on what you know about Greek mythology, but the book is really good to read.
