When I think of interesting books or books that I would enjoy reading, I immediately think of a romantic, action book.
The most interesting book that I have ever read has to be the first book in the “Powerless Trilogy” titled ‘Powerless.”
The YA (Young Adult) Fantasy Romance series captured my interest by the way it introduced the main character, not giving away the gender, forcing me to read on to learn who this character really was. The book ended with a cliffhanger which made me excited to read the rest of the series. This book series consists of action scenes, a love triangle, supernatural powers, kingdoms, and much more.
“The Powerless Trilogy” is a captivating series by Lauren Roberts, comprising three books: “Powerless,” “Reckless,” and “Fearless.” All three books were published within the last three years. The first book came out on January 31, 2023, the second on July 2, 2024, and the third on April 8, 2025.
Readers can get them in paperback, hardback, audiobook, or ebook formats.
Roberts blends superhero excitement with intense, high-stakes adventures throughout the series. The story mainly follows two characters: Paedyn Grey and Kai Azer. However, in the first book, Kitt Azer, Kai’s brother, is introduced as a main character.
In the first book, Paedyn is an outcast and orphan living with her friend Adena before she’s thrown into a Hunger Games-like environment. Kitt Azer is originally introduced as a love interest, but Paedyn betrays him and his trust.
Near the end, there’s a lot of backstabbing and destruction of trust when a problem arises.
The second book reveals more problems and destruction in society as some of the issues from the first book slowly get resolved. The end of the second book reveals a huge cliff hanger and, in my opinion, a heartbreaking discovery.
The third book starts with a deeper explanation of the discovery, and a bigger problem arises between Paedyn and Kai. Kitt comes in, becomes the new “government” of this kingdom, and uses his power to create new problems and another heartbreaking discovery.
The story introduces Kitt as a new point-of-view character, which complicates things and can confuse readers with three different perspectives. While this can be tricky, it also adds intrigue to the story.
While this series is amazing, it has many areas that could be improved.
These include, but are not limited to: the heartbreaking cliffhangers at the ends of the first and second books; certain plot lines feeling rushed, such as the central romance, Kitt’s character arc, the incest plot line, and the finale climax.
Additionally, the number of perspectives in the third book can confuse the reader, making it hard to follow the plot and remember whose point of view they are reading. Aside from these areas, I feel this series was the best I have ever read, and I strongly recommend it.
