State Solo and Ensemble is a competition in which students can earn state-level medals. This year, it will take place on February 28 at North Central High School. Students have earned the spot by performing a group one solo or ensemble, which is the highest class of solo or ensemble difficulty play at the regional level.
Students who have been accepted into the State Solo and Ensemble have performed at the regional level at Jasper Middle School in Indiana. Students who have performed at Solo and Ensemble have spent many hours preparing for their performance with independent practice. Many band students have won gold at the regional level; The Pride of Paoli Band has won 53 gold and 14 silver medals.
State Solo and Ensemble students have worked really hard for this achievement.
Senior Cannon Lambdin is very enthusiastic about this year’s performances.
“I’m very optimistic about the state solo and ensemble. The pieces we all perform are definitely not easy, but it’s a fun challenge that has been really worth it for me,” said Lambdin.
Band director Christian Karkosky is very proud of the work his students have put into getting a spot at State.
“Our students prepared and performed very well at Solo and Ensemble. I am really proud of them for working hard and, for some, stepping outside their comfort zone to participate,” said band Director Christain Karkosky.
The students participating in State Solo and Ensemble include freshmen Logan Burton, Marshall Fahey, Lucas Li, Haylee Mathis, and Camden Porter; sophomores Viola Bender, Andrea Pennington, Carleigh Porter, and Vanessa Thacker; junior Nathaniel Dixon; and seniors Tylor Dzewiecki and Cannon Lambdin.
These students will also be performing in a community show for friends and family, and everyone is welcome to attend on Thursday, February 26, at 7 p.m.
