In the weeks leading up to an event or a Drama Club show, you may see some posters displayed throughout the halls. This year, the posters displayed are for the Drama Club’s production of ‘Singin’ In The Rain’. These posters are uniquely designed, created, and distributed by AP art students and a couple of student volunteers.
The process that makes this possible is known as screen printing. This method includes sketching a design and painting it identically onto each poster. The project took about 3 days to complete. According to art teacher Chris Jones, screen printing is a challenging, yet timeless process.

“Screen printing is a very old process, and there are several different methods to use. Ours is the handcut film method, which is a very basic method of printing, but it does come with its own set of issues. It is very much an old art form that not a lot of people still do by hand, and it takes quite a lot of practice to get good at it,” said Jones.

Each artist involved in this project had specific jobs and tasks to accomplish in order to make the posters a possibility. The responsibilities ranged from designing and painting the posters to cleaning and prepping the films. The following art students were involved in this process: seniors Ava Hall, Audrey Hall, Madi Collier, Maddie Vernon, Abby Poe, and juniors Eden Stroud, Emilee Burton, Allison Livingston, and Todd Chastain.
This year’s Singin’ In The Rain poster was originally sketched out by junior Emilee Burton. Burton sees this project as a way for different art forms to come together and provide new opportunities.
“What makes the poster-making process worthwhile is knowing that what I am creating is going to help out the Drama Club and that it is going to show how our art departments are united and work together! Even though it takes what feels like forever to make, it will be worth the time and effort! I am very proud to have helped the Drama Club sponsor their very talented program,” said Burton.
