On April 15, 16, and 17th, the HOSA group is planning to attend the Indiana State Leadership Conference in Indianapolis. In this event, they will be competing in events and attending educational symposiums. Students involved in this trip include Briza Zapien, Gracie Burger, Jasmine Young, Lyon McCurry, Brooke Goller, Bailey Tyler, Vannesa Thacker, Bella Tate, Ava Middleton, and Cheyenne Carter. All of these students will be going to the conference, but only some will be competing if they qualify in skill tests.Â
These skill tests will occur on March 24th and will test students on their skills and abilities. If they do well in these tests, they will go and compete in the State Leadership Conference. The skill test subjects include Gracie Burger, Bella Tate, and Briza Zapien competing in Nutrition. Brooke Goller, Vanessa Thacker, Bailey Tyler, Lyon Mc Curry, Ava Middleton, and Cheyenne Carter are competing in Medical Terminology. Jasmine Young is competing in Medical Math. Bailey Tyler and Lyoon McCurry are competing in General Chemistry. Lyon McCurry is competing in Anatomy and Physiology.Ava Middleton is competing in Epidemiology. Jasmine Young and Brook Goller are competing in Job Seeking Skills. Briza Zapien and Gracie Burger are competing in a Health Career Display. Vanessa Thacker, Bailey Tyler, and Bella Tate are competing in the Public Service Announcement. Cheyenne Carter is competing in Research, Persuasive Writing, and Speaking. Lyon McCurry is competing in the Family Medicine Physician.
“The students have guidelines to follow and resource material to study for all of the events, and we have a Laboratory Classroom set up for the students to practice their hands-on skills they will be required to demonstrate at the state conference.
We will know on Friday, April 17, the top 5 in the state, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be invited to compete at the International Leadership Conference in June, and compete against students from around the world,” said Mara Carrico, HOSA leader.
The students will do the tests in March, and they will then find out if they are competing in the state on April 15th. On Friday, the 17th, they will find out if they make it to the international leadership conference. Hopefully, our HOSA team will make it big in this competition and qualify for the international competition. Some students, even seniors, could come back for next year and compete, depending on whether their college has an HOSA program. They can continue to do it and also get scholarships to help pay for their college.
